0x8004005 error

I am setting up some software that will email me when my UNIX server is down. The software resides on a Windows 2000 SP2 server. When I test the software to try email a test script to my company network account I get the following message 'Method Call Failed: Error 0x80004005 -unspecified error'. I believe this is a Windows error. I have been onto the software vendors but unfortunately they don't know what they are talking about - any help would be greatfully recieved.
