    I was running the scan through PE because the regular windows was hit and miss on boot up. I just reloaded the machine, now everything seems to be ok, thus far. But yes, regular windows was crashing.

    Windows Pre Enviroment is a diagnostic tool, it is an os in itself, contained on a cd. The version i am using is based on Windows XP Pro. I think i have fixed the problem by formatting the HDD.
