Actually, I think I figured it out. Had to do with NTFS permissions (Modify rights). Once modify rights on the file server were granted to the user who is updating the file, temp docs automatically deleted and disappeared.

Everytime I delete my journal entries - they always reappear when I log back in the next morning.
