We are fairly secure from the Outside. We have a Cisco PIX Firewall in place, along with an ISA Server as our Proxy Server. I believe the ISP comes into the Pix, which then comes into the ISA. The ISA is only running that, and has no other secure data, such as email, or databases on it. It...
Hello all,
I work for a k-12 educational school district. We are budgeting for our software needs for next year. At this time, we have several hackers/mischief makers in our student body.
We are currently looking for software soloutions to monitor, track, catch, and prevent some of their...
What exactly does Deep Freeze do?
We use Ghost also, but I wanted to try to prevent the problem in the future, and to do that, I would have to find out what exactly the student did, and lock it down.
I was hoping to find out how this could be done, since Group Policy restricts this behavior.
Hello all.
I am an administrator for a k-12 school. A "clever" student has recently figured out how to change one system on a laptop cart that we have, which disables any user from having more than basic privilages on the machine.
For instance, as a Domain Admin, I actually have no rights. I...
Dylan,
I also did try to create new users in the Microsoft Exchange > ADU&C and ran into the same problem. It does not allow the option "CREATE MAILBOX"
Thanks guys for all the help.
Dylan,
Yes, I tried accessing it via the ADU&C under Microsoft Exchange from the start menu. These are all users who had logon accounts, but did not previously have a mailbox. We now are allowing them mailboxes, however we ran into this problem.
XMSRE,
I did strip the attributes, but it did...
The 5.5 server is still up, however, it is not connected to the exchange enviroment anymore. What I mean by this is, if I try to move one of the mailboxes which came over during the migration, off of the Exchange 2003 server, there are no other options as to another server to move it to. Our...
I work for a school district. We recently migrated from 5.5 to 2003. After the migration, pre-existing users who did not previously have a mailbox, can not have one created for them.
When you go to the Exchange/AD Users and Computers Console, and right click > Exchange Tasks, the only thing...
This appears in the Application Event Log in Event Viewer each time the problem happens.

The shell stopped unexpectedly and explorer.exe was restarted.

As of this point, I have run Spybot and Spyhunter, and every suggested program in the above article.
Here is my Hijack Log:

For some reason, anytime I double click a desktop icon, all my icons disappear, and then the desktop seems to reset itself, with all IE or Windows Explorer windows closing before the system comes back up.
I read on a forum that this may be a result of spyware, so I ran Spybot 1.2 and removed...
Turns out it was a problem with our Operations Master. We had to do some minor reconfiguring (stop and start a couple services, then run nltest) but things are working fine now. Thanks.
Trusted,
We tried the first part of what you suggested. We deleted the locally cached copies, but logon time was still long.
However, when we completely reimaged the disk, log on was fine. I think your theory of the max registr size makes sense. How can I increase that?
Thanks a lot for...
Ok, here is an update. When we reghosted a hard drive, with the original disk image, the log on time was 4 seconds. I think the network mappings could be an issue with that, I'll look into it on Monday.
Since the same machine did not have any delays after the disk re-image, in my mind that...
We do not have roaming profiles enabled. There are only 4 profiles, which are roaming in the network, which are basically administrators, which use DFS.
There are approxamately 600 other uses, but not every user logs on to every machine.
When a user logs on, his/her profile is copied to the...
Currently we have a mixed Windows network. Our clients are 98, 2000 and XP. All our servers are 2000 with 1 2003 server.
Whenever an XP or 2000 machine logs on to the network, we experience a delay of approx. 5 mins before the computer actually logs on. Microsoft has an article on knowledge...
