I was looking to buy a DVD burner and came across this one:

The %SystemRoot%\System32\Perflib_Perfdataxxx.dat files are created by the System Monitor. When you shutdown normally, the file should be deleted.
If you have an abormal shutdown, these files can become orphaned, and accumulate on your computer.
Under some yet to be determined circumstances...
This could be a couple of things. One is that some connection is loose in your computer or you have a no post situation.
Strip your system down. Unplug everything (memory, drives, expansion cards) from the motherboard. Reseat CPU, power connections to motherboard and control panel cable...

if the computer wont go to the recovery console, you have two options. a complete format and reinstall or second a parallel installation of winxp on another directory. if you want help with a parallel installation let me know and i'll give you detailed info.
