Thanks again. In addition to being desktop manager (responsible for the roll-out of W2KPro) I am also the security manager. Trying to wear both hats at the same time. I was hoping that there was an .msi file, or some other scripted resource that would list what components show up in the list...
Thanks. Yes, we could use the policy editor, and yes, we are making MOST ALL of the users PowerUsers rather than administrators, but we will be forced to make more users into Local Administrators than we want AND these are the users most likely to get creative with their PCs and want to...
I am deploying 850 copies of W2KPro in my organization and don't want anyone -- even a local administrator -- to see IIS on the list of Windows components that can be installed. We are building a prototype system that will be cloned using Ghost to the 850 other machines. Does anyone know how...
Go to Settings/Control Panel/Add Remove Programs, then click on Add/Remove Windows Components. Find the IIS checkbox, check it, and go. Once installed it can be started by going to Settings/Control Panel/Administrative Tools, and starting "Internet Information Services." Consult the...
The version of IIS that comes with Win 2000 Pro is limited to 10 simultaneous connections. Period. This is a license issue. If you need more simultaneous connections, buy Windows 2000 Server, or Advanced Server.
I have W2K Pro on my DSL linked PC running a 10 user web/ftp server. I was hit with the CODE RED worm, and shut it down. I then applied SP1 (from the MS site) and the security patch. Now I have no web server at all! When I go to Control Panel/Administrative Tools and click on the IIS...
Windows 2000 will reboot spontaneously if you have a UPS system that somehow is not communicating properly with the OS. It erroneously thinks that the power is about to go off, and just shuts down. If you don't have a UPS, then this isn't it -- but I though it might be worth a check.
My Windows 2000 Pro will not shutdown -- screen hangs after "Start/Shut Down/Restart" before any dialog (monologue) box comes up. Mouse cursor is alive, screen is blank. Must re-set with power button.
This happens EVERY time I use my MODEM to dialup to the Internet. It is not...
See Q105241 at MS KB web site. This explains that if Win2K cannot communicate with your UPS, it will assume the worst and just shut down without any warning or explanation. Very annoying and appears to be random. You can go into MMC and view the system logs to see what was going on just...
