Yeah I know but its more of personal interest now. I would like to know why it doesnt work, it doesnt mean im going to implement it.

I havent worked with GPOs much but want to set up a simple policy which will make some chnagess to the registry settings on the PCs. I started by creating a test ou from which i could test policies.I then created a custom adm file which i added to the gpo machine settings of my test ou.

Hi
We used to use Tardis to sync all the Pcs and servers in our domain. We now want to get rid of it and use windows time service. Ive seen the atricles on how to set authoritive servers etc. Ive set the servers to sync off the pdc emulator and the pdc emulator syncs off exteranl server.

Thanks but it seems the problem is specifically Windows XP machines. Will try SP2 to see if it sorts the problem.

Hi
We ae running a windows 2000 domain. Ive got a problem where users log on and are told that their password will expire in 14 days (for example). When they try and change their passwords they are told they dont have permission to do so.
However if they are logged in they can change their...
That is possible but depending on your situation i would not normally reinstall a server just to get an NTFS partition. A couple of minutes for a conversion vs. a rebuild of a server its your choice. If this is not a production server then it makes no difference, i just assumed this was a working...
A few things.
When joining a machine to a domain a computer account is created in AD for the machine. Without this account being created the machine will not be able to access the network. It also serves as a means of auditing activity on the network. Out of the pre windows 2000 OS's only NT 4...
Hey,
You dont have to reformat your drive just to get ntfs on the machine. Just run the covert command from a command prompt e.g.
convert c: /fs:ntfs
You might be then prompted to restart so that windows can perform the conversion.

Hey,
Ive had something similar happen. Check that the account for that particular machine does exist in the domain, if it doesnt, create it.
Take the PC off the domain. Once youve done the restart you must use the Network ID wizard to rejoin the domain. During the wizard you will be told that...
Hey,
You will need to assign a static ip address to the machine you are trying to add to the network. The address you assign must be in the same range as the other machines are using and this can be done from network properties (im not sure what os you are using)
You mentioned using a W2K...
Hi,
I managed to resolve the issue myself by creating 4 protocol definitions and a protocol rule allowing the definitions. Also loaded latest service pack for ISA whether or not this made the difference i am not sure. Thanks anyway.
Hi,
I have a server (windows 2000) running ISA providing internet access and would like some of the internal machines to access PCAnywhere remote clients. I have created packet filters for 5632 and 5631 as specified in technet and am using PCanywhere 9.2 as ver 10 upwards is not supported by...
Thanks for the response.
The company I am at is pretty small, so there isnt anyone who takes care of career development. I am planning on moving on to a bigger company at the end of the year so hopefully they will have someone who will be able to help in that respect. So basically what you are...
Hi
I have been working in I.T. for just over two years now, I have completed my MCSE and was wondering what next. In the long term I am really interested getting into project management, but have no idea where to start. How would you go about getting into I.T. project management if you have no...
I havent upgraded to Windows 98 yet, but as I am running out of time and patience it will be my next step. I did not really want to go this route but its my only other option.
