    Can't ping through a 2950

Got it fixed -- turned out to be the gig0/1 config on the 2950. Was net for switchport mode trunk, and shouldn't have been. Sorry 'bout not getting around to posting the configs . . . Was chasing this beast from several directions. I'm sure if I posted the configs here first, the same discovery...

    Can't ping through a 2950

    Can't ping through a 2950

From a host hanging off the 2950, I can ping ONLY the 2950, and, of course, the other hosts connected to the 2950: nothing beyond that. Actually, RookThis, I'm not quite sure what you mean by assigning a VLAN to the hosts. If you mean they have IP addresses within the 2950's VLAN address...

    Can't ping through a 2950

Correction: the VLANS are created in the 4224 . . .

    Can't ping through a 2950

No routers in the mix. The only layer 3 piece is the old 4224 at the "other end" of the network. The 2950 is where the two (so far) VLANS originate. The connectivity is more or less like this: Six servers in two vlans --> Catalyst 4224 --> 3550 --> 2950(via GBIC Fiber Link) --> Network...

    Can't ping through a 2950

I have a 2950 connected via GBIC to a 3550. which, in turn, is connected to a port on an older 4224. I have 19 hosts connected to the 2950. I have 6 hosts connected to the 4224 in two VLANS (vlan2 & vlan3) The 3550 & 2950 are part of VLAN 3. From the 2950, I can ping any and all switches and...

    Cannot locate domain controller

I finally got those last four boxes to join the domain. yay. It appears to have been bad SRV records on the DC -- removed and "reinstalled" forward zones, and the SRV records came back as they should have. BTW, the DC is multihomed, the 2nd NIC is "disabled", though . . . But, it begs the...

    Cannot locate domain controller

If you mean entering DNS server addresses during the IP configuration process (all non-virtual clients have a static IP, BTW -- I didn't mention that in my first post) then, yes.

    Cannot locate domain controller

OK. this one is weird. I have an air-gapped Win 2k/Win 2k3 AD Network with less than 100 total nodes. As Clients on the child domain, I've 20 identical Dell PE's. All but four of these client machines have joined the domain successfully. These four "cannot locate the domain controller" With...

Set home folder to network path by default

In a Win 2K active directory domain, is there a way to have new domain user's home directory default to a network path as they are added to the domain? ex. in AD domain this.here.domain, I add that.user: Upon creation of that.user's account, his/her home folder would default to...

"Unauthorized to view . . ." with anonymous access set(?!?!)

Tried that: "promoted" the IIS guest user account to one notch below supreme being (gave temp admin rights); still denied. Additionally, while logged in locally as Local admin, access is not only DENIED to the web site content folders via Windows Explorer (???), but get the IE...

"Unauthorized to view . . ." with anonymous access set(?!?!)

Running IIS 6.x, Win 2003 Server Web Edition . . . Checked allow anonymous access, un-checked all other authentication checkboxes in the directory security tab, and STILL get 401.1 errors. Verified anonymous user credentials (they are the same). Even granted "everyone" full control...

    Windows 2003 Server

Win 2003 Server as a workstation client works OK. We kind of had to go there, as we've a lab with a rack of Dell 1750's used as clients in a domain, intended to be used (more or less)as rack-mountable "clones" of Dell Precision 450's . We started with the intention of loading XP on...

    Windows 2003 Inbound connection Limit

Just found out that the C: partition was NOT reformatted as part of the Win Server 2003 installation process. What might this mean?

    Windows 2003 Inbound connection Limit

My file/FTP server (educational lab network) WAS running Win XP pro, but we came up against that 10 connection limit. We have since "upgraded" (read: fresh install) to Win Server 2003 Web edition, but We're STILL experiencing that 10 inbound connection limit. Hostname and IP are the...

FTP/HTTP Connections thru Shorewall immediately disconnected

Is there something in the Shorewall/Iptables/netfilter configuration we're not seeing which would cause connections to an ftp or http server be dropped immediately? Ethereal logs show a momentary successful connection, followed immediately by a disconnect by the host. Command line ftp shows the...

    Unusual Network Setup

First, I've had to set up a deliberately complex, but physically small (less than 500 total nodes, including 350+ VMware VM's, 19 servers, 30 client boxes) network in an educational/lab environment. This network is totally insular -- there are no connections to any external domain or subnet --...

    Catalyst always drops to rommon

After a rather lengthy struggle to get a dead catalyst 4224 up, running and configured (didn't even know what an IOS was a few weeks ago) -- I have one more glitch -- It seems that whenever I disconnect the hyperterminal session and/or reboot the Win 2K box to which the console port of the...

VLANs not communicating -- Cat 4224

I'll give that a try -- TIA. After I look into a couple of other things, that is. There may be a problem with the Fast ethernet port (and/or the server itself) to which my intended DC for the 172.16.100.0/24 subnet is attached -- it appears that's the only active port (e.g. one with a device...

VLANs not communicating -- Cat 4224

First, a "caveat": IOS Newbie adminning an INSULAR (read: NOT connected to the internet)multi-domain network in an educational/lab environment. Networks are physically small (less than 500 total hosts, including VMs, but 5 domains -- for lab simulation purposes) So, we're...
