I am one of the network administrators here. I have a user who cannot create new color categories or modify existing color categories in an Outlook 2007 appointment calendar that she is the owner of. The calendar is a file that has an XNK extension.
The color categories are gray. She...
I am a network administrator.
We have several users here at work who cannot have administrative rights to their computers by policy.
I have a piece of software that requires users to be logged in as administrators.
As a test, I created a local user on a spare PC in my office that has...
Thanks! I will try to implement this solution today. The user's PC is not on yet (9:00 AM local time). I connect to her PC remotely because she works at another building about 1/2 and hour away from here. Her PC is not on right now. Her department works on flex time, so she may work 10...

An Excel file that some people use has started generating the following message when we try getting into it: "file contains macros with an expired or revoked signature". It also said that we were using the High Security settings, so the macros will be disabled.
I am the Assistant Network...
Ever since we've started using Windows 2003 Server, we've had the following problem with Microsoft Excel on Windows 98 machines running Office XP:
Users running Excel save their Excel files and are unaware of any problems until they try to find it again. The system renames the files such that...
One of our users is getting the following error message on his Windows 98 SE PC: "3COM EuSynth: ADI/ICH Hardware not present". 3COM EuSynth will be unavailable". Some of the message boards on the Internet indicated that DirectX could be the problem. He has DirectX 9 on his PC. I made sure...
My boss and one of my co-workers have reported a problem with Adobe Acrobat Reader Version 6.0. They are both using Windows XP Pro. Here's the problem:

After installing XP Pro SP1 on my PC, I have the following problem: When I try to restart the PC, it shuts down instead of restarting. Any suggestions?
I bought Norton Internet Security 2004, so I decided to uninstall Spybot from my PC. I went through Spybot's uninstall. It told me that all I needed to do was to remove the directory to complete the uninstall. When I tried to remove the directory, it wouldn't let me remove the file called...
Microsoft has the name. Mention Novell and most big bosses will give you a blank stare. Mention Microsoft and it's automatically okay with them to spend the company's money because it's Microsoft.
When we had a Novell Server, there was a "rule of thumb" that 20 to 25% of each volume must remain free at all times. In other words: If you had a 100GB volume, it should always have at least 25GB of free space on it.
Is there such a rule of thumb for Windows 2000 Server? We're not...
Thanks, Beer4meok, that last tip did the trick! Here's what to do (on the printout I generated from the link, it's on pages 12 and 13):
Click "Start" - "Run" and then type "control userpasswords2".
Make sure that "Users must enter a user name and...
I tried that. It didn't change anything. Neither of the 2 options under "Change the way users log on or logoff" are checked.
I checked the settings after re-booting, just to make sure the options were still unchecked. They were both unchecked, yet I did not get prompted for an...
When my PC that has XP Pro is booted or re-booted, it is not prompting me for an account name or password. I have several accounts on my PC, so I want it to prompt for a password and an account name whenever it gets booted.
Does anyone have any ideas?
At first, I thought that this was not a recurring event. That was because I had sorted the log the wrong way! The user is always "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM" and the times are always odd (2:09 AM, 4:12 AM, etc). Based on the user name, this sounds like some sort of system function. At...
This morning, when I was looking through my Event Viewers for our Windows 2000 Servers, I found the following message:

It sounds to me like your problems have more to do with IP addresses and bindings than anything else. If your network cards are set to obtain DHCP and IP addresses automatically, that usually works. However, it doesn't always work. I'd check into that, anyway.
Thanks, agrappe and ghubiak. In regards to this feature, Microsoft needs to catch up with Novell!
I heard that there is a possibility that Microsoft has added this feature to Windows 2003 networking. That would be nice.
