    network share won't be mapped...

First idea: path - \\ipaddress\shared_folder connect as - machine_name\local_user_name (machine name is from the network identification tab of system properties) This will force the authentication for the local user. Second idea: This sounds like cache credential issue. 1) make sure the...

Delay in Applying Personal Settings when loggin on

Do you have "Roaming Profiles' enabled? If so, you may wish to check the size of the profiles. On occasion, depending on where and how the user saves files, the profile can grow quite large (files may actually be being saved in the profile, itself). In a case like this, deleting the profile...

    Changing Desktop Icon Font Colour

You didn't mention what O/S you are running. Here are instructions for Windows 2000 Workstation, other Microsoft O/S's should be similar enough that you can figure it out from here. Right-click on a blank area of your desktop Click Properties Click the APPEARANCE tab Click WINDOW TEXT in ACTIVE...

    Disk boot failure

If you have the media for installation of 2000 Professional, just boot off of that media to do your install. You may have to enter your BIOS to tell your PC to boot from CD.

    1. How much RAM do you have? 2. Have you tried disabling indexing services? 3. Have you scanned for spyware via AdAware, SpyBot or some such tool? 4. Have you gone to ibm.com and updated the bios and other files for your Thinkpad...

NONE of my NICs work! PCI problem?

ACPI= Advanced Configuration Power Interface. I believe that the O/S is telling you that ACPI is enabled but that your NIC isn't ACPI compliant (can't be powered off by the O/S). Try disabling ACPI in your BIOS configuration.

    PC anywhere question

You may wish to take a look at the resolution setting on the XP machine. Perhaps it is set higher now than before it was upgraded? If so, perhaps lowering it would help?

    Can ping but not tracert

The "ping" command uses ICMP packets. Some traceroute programs use UDP packets on port 33434 and adds one to the port number for each hop (so it can tell which ones are timing out). Firewalls may block either at intervening hosts for packets addressedto them directly. For example, a...

Printer XEROX M940 paper feed problem

You don't say if this printer has been used or how long it has been used, so I shall assume that it "has" been used successfully in the past. I have seen this problem when a slick coating from the paper builds up on the printers rollers. I have resolved the problem by folding a piece...

    Supplier of fixings?

A suggestion: Contact the vendor of the drive you wish to affix and determine the spec's (thread & dimensions) of the bolt, then perform a google search for nuts and bolts, refine the search to vendors in your area.

    CD-RW can't spin disc?

You didn't mention whether you were inserting a disk that can be read in another drive. If you are, then it does sound as if there is a hardware problem.
  20. DavidDCSA

    NICs don't seem to help.

If a computer which does not run 100Mb on the vendor-installed line will run 100Mb on your line, then this would imply that the vendor either did not run Cat5 cabling, or they have a faulty installation.
