I'm looking at some of our "legacy" SQL queries. They're painful.
One of the things that is being done is a RBAR copy of a subset of fields into a temporary table. Part of the reason it's doing the copy to the temp table is because it renames columns... Needless to say, that is very slow (and...
Can someone explain, in simple terms... a lambda expression?
For some stupid reason, I can't wrap my brain around it.
Just my $.02

So, I've learned several lessons in my dive into home automation.
I'm currently using an Amazon-based system (alexa), and Wifi-enabled RGB smart bulbs.
Here's what I've learned so far:
1) Pick a vendor, and stick with them.
2) Expect things to not work well, if at all, if your internet is out...
I'm looking for suggestions for the ability to "remotely disable" a laptop.
Here's the situation....
I have marketing people who have laptops out there.
I want to have a solution where I can "flip a switch" if a laptop gets stolen or lost, and the next time that laptop is online, it gets wiped...
I've been trying to get a handle on this.
If I wanted to host my own SIP trunks, is there a guide or a howto or a FAQ?
(to clarify, I know how to set up sip stations... the phones... I'm talking about the sip *trunks*, which connect to the outside world... the ones with a phone number)...
So, we wish to move off of an old SharePoint 2010 site which has shared calendars, to Office 365 (where calendars can be viewed on mobile devices, something that doesn't work with Outlook Mobile).
I've created an Office 365 Group calendar, and yes, it shows up on Outlook Mobile. So far so...
In all my years of working on HP printers, I've never had that happen.
I diagnosed it fairly quickly (wouldn't boot, hard drive errors, etc.)
Finding one was a TOTAL PAIN, but finally found one that would work on amazon.
Took about 15 minutes after I got the box to get it up and running...
Well, with Windows 1903, my jump lists have stopped working.
Says "The item you selected is unavailable..."
I cleared the jump list, opened the file from the location, it reappeared on the jump list. Trying to open it from the jump list gives me the same error.
Very frustrating.
Anyone run...
Has anyone played with OpenHAB? What do you do with it? How does it work? Is it voice activated?
I remember a LONG time ago (70's) a speech-controlled home automation project called Breslin.
WAY ahead of its time. Is OpenHAB anything like that?
I'm really wanting something self-contained...
I'm setting up network monitoring, and I thought "Hey, I'd like to put my notification area on my computer to good use, by popping up a message if I have an issue (as well as generating an email, etc.)
So... here's a question... how can I send a message from a server to my local machine and...
OK, so not sure if this was really an Access question, or a filesystem question.
Seems that Access does some pretty funky stuff with its date/time stamps, making it difficult to know when the file was *really* modified.
For example.... create a blank access database.
(Get-Item...
So, normally something like this would be "red flagged" as promotion or whatever. I assure you, it's not.
I'd just like to point out a tool that I have been using for many years that has pulled my bacon out of the fire more than once. It's the Windows All in One Repair tool from Tweaking.com...
Huzzah! We've moved.
We're the proud owners of a 3 br/2 bath home on 1.3 acres on top of a mountain.
I hurt in places I didn't know I had. XD
The torrential downpour of this past Saturday (along with the subsequent flooding of surrounding areas) made the move... interesting at best.
Just...
I've managed to build some public calendars, but the only way to get to them is to click on the ellipses (...), go to folders, and drill down from there.
Isn't there a way to have the "Public Folders - (my email)" show up on the MAIL tab, or even on the CALENDARS tab, instead of having to drill...
So, years ago (in the 80's)I worked for Radio Shack.
Back then, they offered the "Extended Service Policy" which they later renamed "Tandy Service Policy"
It was on the tags as "ESP"
So, this lady comes in to buy a new phone.
Well, we had about 50 different models, so I start narrowing it...
In a nutshell, this is what I need to do:
Incoming Call --> Answered by Operator --> Operator does blind transfer --> Message is played to caller (this call may be recorded) --> Transfer to target station
I'm running Asterisk 11.25.1 / FreePBX / Xorcom.
This shouldn't be this difficult to...
So, I want to make sure that I set this up properly the first time.
We have a large iSCSI SAN that hosts our files and user profiles.
We have a 2008 server that has DFS namespaces pointing to the SCSI luns... \\mycompany.pri\users \\mycompany.pri\profiles and so forth.
We are wanting high...
So, I have a folder that exists on my desktop PC, my laptop, and my Linux media center (running samba)
I'm looking to sync those folders (it's full of music, and I'm constantly re-organizing, editing MP3 tags, etc.)
What I'd like to be able to do is make a change on my desktop PC, and have it...
I'm familiar with how to move my snapshot location on working VM's with a combination of the
snapshot.redoNotWithParent = "true"
and
workingdir = "<guid of desired snapshot location>"
However, is there a way to set these as default?
I'd like to point all of my VMs in a cluster to the new...
So... I have a couple of tables (simplified view here)
Documents table (The "Documents" table is the "pages" in the "files" table)
DocumentID File ID
1 1234
2 1235
3 1236
4 1237
5 1238
Files Table (The "Files"...
