For anybody who is interested in this subject: I recently "re-installed" (with the repair option) win2k and somehow I could not get UDMA back whatever I tried.
Finally I found the solution with google: unstall the IDE-controllers, reboot and UDMA was back!
How about making backups of the partition with the OS on it, on a regular basis?

Oops, that works if you replace the harddisk in one and the same computer (and are using an image from the old harddisk on the new one).
If it works with the same harddisk to another computer is quite possible, but doesn't have to work, because a lot more has changed then just the harddisk.
