For anybody who is interested in this subject: I recently "re-installed" (with the repair option) win2k and somehow I could not get UDMA back whatever I tried. Finally I found the solution with google: unstall the IDE-controllers, reboot and UDMA was back!

And everybody who can't find the humor in my remark, must be the victim of...I dunno, maybe Invader Zim.

How about making backups of the partition with the OS on it, on a regular basis? You problem would have been solved faster then you could type a message on this forum! (if you type slowly :)) Much less work than changing graphiccards, harddrives or even your wife!

Does your computer boot from a DOS-diskette anyway? And when it does, can you access the harddisk?

Try restoring the last backup of your system-partition, you surely created not too long ago. (Although there are rumours ppl still go through computerlife without backups! Can you believe that?)

Why did I say that? :) It should read: anything, BUT harddrives, (i.e. burners, DVD-players, etc) attached to the controller won't be recognized in DOS.

Oops, that works if you replace the harddisk in one and the same computer (and are using an image from the old harddisk on the new one). If it works with the same harddisk to another computer is quite possible, but doesn't have to work, because a lot more has changed then just the harddisk.

You should use sysprep.exe which can be found om microsoft.com (Q2757813) and run it just before changing the harddisk. It's that easy!
