Hello:
I am tryhing to disable a cisco 1720's ability to be accessed remotely. We are interested only in accessing the router via the console connection (cisco rollover cable to a serial port). We do not use the auxillary connection and want to disable remote telnet access.
The portion of...

What is the proper way to back up a gw system. I've received conflicting information. One guys says you need backup software that is gw compliant for the backup. Another guy mentioned that with the gw tsa, any backup software should be able to read gw files. Can somebody please give me a...
Not too sure about your machines, but i've updated dell machine bios' from windows. When you go to download the file, you should have 2 options. The classic copy the file to a floppy and boot to update the bios or a windows executable. You execute a file and it reads the machine bios and...
Zenworks does not require netware anymore. It can run on a windows/netware/linux server, nor does it require client32. Its pretty platform independent. It does need a directory service to operate against. I'm not sure if it can use active directory or if Edirectory (formerly NDS) is...
I've played with pegasus on netware and you should make sure for that user object, they have a home directory defined in NDS. I beleive that is where the pegasus client stores downloaded email and etc...
Just curious, and if up to me, I'd use NetWare for printing anyway. But I have to ask, whats so bad about windows printing/spooling? You would think that network printing is not a new concept. I've implemented shared windows printers and it works. What does netware, perhaps besides iPrint...
Are you using a UPS on these systems? Dirty power can also cause these symptoms. If these systems are on UPS, you might want to verify that the UPS is outputting clean stable power.
NDPS is nice since the server can speak to the printer using IP, even in a client/server IPX network.
You might also consider partitioning your network into VLANs and make sure your switches can do IPX routing/VLANs.
If you need to push a specific wallpaper to your desktops, you can do it through User Configuration\Administrative templates\Desktop\Active Desktop\Active Desktop Wallpaper
It must be a form of file-level encryption. If we can swing IPSec encryption, then it will be a relief for me. But until I can get that clearance, file encryption is the way.

I am not happy with this either. You give a financial account manager a subscription to PC Mag, he picks up some new buzzwords and the end result is what I'm dealing with here. Sorry but the files to be encrypted reside on a win2k cluster volume and not XP. I can encrypt the...
I'm not exactly thrilled about encrypting our files on our own LAN either. With all of our other security, NTFS rights, etc etc... now we have to encrypt files on our own servers. Makes no sense if you ask me.
Anyway...I was reading how EFS is only for one user...and future versions of EFS...
I have a database program that resides in a directory shared off a win2k cluster. Our clients have recently put forth a requirement that data residing in our database must be encrypted.
Our firm is thinking of using encrypting file system (EFS) to encrypt the entire directory where the...
