Error 2 is a Pervasive Btrive database error. If you cannot correct please visit www.nssdd.com as they do database repairs and there is no charge if it cannot be repaired.
Yes you are right that it does require registration to actually create the DDF files.
After you create the DDF then you can connect via ODBC. Btrieve files are not SQL format in themselves but the later versions of Pervasive built a SQL engine so you can retrieve the data using the ODBC...
Hi,
If you need to build the DDF files you can take a look at BtSearch at www.nssdd.com. It can help you analyze the data structure and build the DDF files.

Brian,
Please visit www.nssdd.com where you can either download Btsearch to export your data yourself or let me know and I'll get your data out of the files to CSV format. You can email me at nelsonsoft@hotmail.com.

It is possible that the definitions were not created for those files. The program itself may not rely on the DDF files. So you may have to build these definitions yourself if you cannot get an updated copy from the program vendor. You might download BtSearch at www.nssdd.com and it will allow...
One of the first things you will need are the data dictionary files. The primary ones are file.ddf, field.ddf and index.ddf. If you have these and they are accurate then you should be able to access your data with ODBC if you have the later drivers. If you do not have these files you can try...
Your not going to be able to get bUtil to do that. And since auto-increment fields are unique you could not just go thru and change them all to zero either. You will have to create a custom program to merge the two files.
If you need to analyze the data and create the DDF files you can try BtSearch at www.nssdd.com. I will help you create the DDF files. Once that is done then you can export to CSV,dbase or other ascii formats.

Just a note that I do file repairs on Pervasive Btrieve files. If the errors are in the page allocation tables usually you can restore the file 100 percent. But at times the corruption may be in the actual data. But usually you can still restore some data and in some cases you can combine the...
The full message for that error is below.
What version of Pervasive did you install. Make sure you install the workgroup edition. Once you get the Pervasive engine up and running you should be able to open the file in Btsearch. There is a video of creating a DDF at www.nssdd.com/support.html...
It may be a problem with the page allocation table. I've seen a database that did not report an error but lost the records. I don't like to leave my email address here but visit www.nssdd.com if you want and send me an email with the file from there I'll take a look.
Thanks,
Gil

As Mirtheil pointed out Btrieve files do not contain the record structure within the files. That is why the external DDF files are required. DDF files are in themeselves Btrieve files. These then contain the field structures so that ODBC or other 3-rd party can access your data.
And...
Sequential files are not the same as CSV files. You might take a look at Btsearch32 at www.nssdd.com. It will allow you to import CSV files into Pervasive Btrieve files.

After you open the control panel you should see an icon with Pervasive.SQL Engines. Double Click and you should see your computer which is hosting Pervasive V9. Double click again. Now you have Databases Engine, Databases Client. Double click databases Engine. You should see the Demodata...
Just to confirm your DDF files with your data you can take a look at BtSearch32. It will allow you to select one directory for your data and one for your DDF files.
Also you might copy the DDF files to where the data that you want to view is stored then use the Pervasive control panel to add...
