Thanks,
I figured out what it was. Somebody made a batch file that contained command-line ArcServe backup commands in it....then they put it in the Windows Task Scheduler...so it ran every night on top of my backup.
I'm not sure what SP5 fixes...but SP4 has worked great for me. I tried...
I have a few clients where ArcServe runs my job twice.
I have ArcServe 2000 (v7) SP4 (Build 1100). Running on a stand-alone W2K server.
I've cleared the job queue (even tried deleting the .qsd folder & letting Arc. re-make it).
If I start from a blank slate, and create a new backup job, then...

After too many hours of spinning my wheels, I've arrived with a solution!
This solution is definitely a keeper. As it turns out, ArcServe 2000 uses BITS (the Background Intelligent Transfer Service).
There are also other applications that use the BITS service (SMS Advanced...
PALC (and maybe DustyDevil) - I have the solution. It worked for me:
As it turns out, ArcServe 2000 uses BITS (the Background Intelligent Transfer Service).
There are also other applications that use the BITS service (SMS Advanced client for instance).
I don't have SMS client but when I...
I am having the EXACT same problem.
Did you ever find a fix?
My back-ups report no errors but only back up the directory structure - no files in it.
Actually, PALC's problem is identical to mine too. DustyDevil got some errors but I got no errors reported.
Here's an update:
I tried backing up 1 folder containing 3 files on the server itself. You see, ArcServe & tape drive is ON the server I'm trying to backup. So Anyway, the result was a folder only, no files. Even after I initialized the database, re-scan, and merged the tape back in. Still...
I'm using ArcServe 2000 Advanced Edition (v7.0 Build 1100) on a Windows 2000 Server.
Backing up seems to work with no errors. I do a full backup nightly.
But when I go to RESTORE I only see the folder tree and no individual files. So if I pick a folder called C:\DATA then it will restore an...
Aside from having the ringing pickup button programmed onto a button on your phone unit, what is the code/number you can dial from your 500-set to do the equivalent pickup?
Maybe it starts with a "1"....? I don't remember.
Thanks guys!

MG2005 & tellyteck1 -
Are you both talking the same thing? I mean, MG2005 says the set is monitored (don't know what that means) & Tellyteck1 says that the set I tried copying has its DN# as a button on the receptionist desk (that I understand).
Are you both saying the same thing in a...
late reply....I forgot.
I just copied another set. I still don't understand why I couldn't copy the one I wanted (actually I had to try a few before I got to one that I could).
John Poole - I don't know what a bfs key is.
yeah, yeah, I can make a new set of course. But that requires more...
ho ho ho my merry friends -
What am I doing wrong here? I'm just trying to copy a port instead of having to make a new one and type all the stuff in....So our new employee joe blow can have a telephone...

I certainly appreciate your responses!
Javier, that's a bit over my head I'm afraid.
I did phone sys. admin for about 3 years, but that was 10 years ago. So I remember some stuff....but anything like you posted I'd probably ask the local phone tech to come in & do....(and as you know...
I don't quite recall how to set up forwarding on our companies main tele# (npa-nxx-2100) so it forwards along until somebody answers it.
I know how to set the FDN parameter on a set. For instance, most phone ports here are set to FDN 4989 (which is voicemail). So, "forward on no answer to...
