Hi, Don't know if this is any help, but we use a barcode scanner with an ipaq h2210. It's called a 'SOCKET IN-HAND SCAN CARD (ISC)' and it fits into the CF slot.

Thanks Glohamar, Yes, the modems are identical. In fact I just took a working modem out of one of the 1.10.07's and put it in a 1.00.10 machine. It didn't work! Do you know if you can upgrade the ROM, like a firmware upgrade?

Thanks ceh4702 I'll bear that in mind when finishing off the case and thinking about airflow. The problem is, that I've removed the motherboard and all components and they are sitting on a piece of newspaper with free air flow!!! I just can't understand it.
