I have a very simple NFS share between two redhat 9 boxes. Our staff here copies data from the production server to the FTP server where our clients can pick it up later in the day. The problem is, if a filename already exists and our folks try to replace it with the same (updated) file, it...
Hi all,
I have just setup the new version of vsftpd that allows ssl connections. I had vsftpd (early version) running on this server that is setup in the DMZ, with clients accessing data from the outside.
After the upgrade, I am successfully able to both vsftp and vsftp+ssl to the box from...
Interesting! But...I still want to get vsftp working. Just got an email from Chris Evans saying it looks like it's not picking up the systems ssl headers. Hmmmm...any ideas anyone?
Chris
Not really - you can't chroot users...which is important to me. I need the functionality of vsftp with the security of sftp...which is why I am trying to get the new version (2.0.1) working!

Hi all,
I have a Red Hat 9 system that I am setting up as an ftp server. Part of the requirements is that it have vsftp with ssl enabled. I have downloaded version 2.0.1 and changed the builddefs.sh file to reflect "#define VSF_BUILD_SSL". After make is run and it spits out my vsftpd.conf...
ramu74 - I did double/triple check all my spelling and there are no other users even closely named. The user was setup specifically for samba use - I just don't want it in the NIS domain and restrict it via netgroups.
bfitzmai - I have thought about that and asked the senior admin if I could...

Ok, so I have added the user to /etc/passwd, /etc/shadow and /etc/group. Created the home dir. Now I'm ready to set the password. I try (as root or su to the new user)...
>>When you set your FTP-only user's login to, for example, /bin/false, that user can't login by FTP?<<
Yes. My /etc/shells file has /bin/false as well as /sbin/nologin.

Hi all,
Ok - I'm pulling my hair out now. I've searched through this forum and read the questions/answers on how to restrict FTP users to FTP only (no ssh/telnet). So far, I have added /bin/false, /sbin/nologin, created this script: /bin/ftponly
#!bin/sh
/usr/bin/ftp
No werky! But, as soon...
Awesome! Thanks! I knew I could set the current time by using "touch filename" - I should have just checked the man page.
Thanks again!
