To ArcserveGuru:
According to BrightStor Storage Newsletter from CA, Ver 0.2.07 August 1, 2002 we can once again apply this service pack, (sp4). I never did apply it because of your warnings. Can I assume it is safe to apply the patch QO17382.asp?
I have run into similar problems and in my case it was either of the following: ARCserve Manager was running, the prune job was active or the files were being merged into the database, (too soon after the backup finishes).
I too have been having my share of problems using these utilities. I...
If the merge does not work for you the first time, try the following.
Stop ARCserve. Now go into its directory through explorer and locate the folder called "Database". Also look for another folder called "Empty DB" or something like that. Save a copy of the emptydb...
Sometimes if you do reformat the tape and check the compression rate of your drive beforehand, can tweak it up a bit.
We use 40GB DLT tapes that boast 80GB capacity. I have seen for some of my backups getting 200GB per tape with a 5:1 ratio. Again file type has a lot to do with it.
Another...
I have always been under the impression that these are the actual data from the tapes that you back up to. That with this data in place, a restore is easier to do. That without it, the tape being restored from will need to be merged into the data base.
So to the reply that they deleted these...
I have this product and have it up to SP 3. I am backing up both Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 machines.
The backup scripts, which are custom created, (not done through the Wizard), appear to be identical in configuration as each other.
I have all drives and the Registry Files clicked on to...
I really need some more info here:
Be more specific of what your scrpts are doing. Such as if you have several scripts using one tape, or tape label.
If there are several jobs in there too.
I just need more info before I can make an accurate comment
What is this? I have been on AS's site and can not find anything helpful on this topic.
When I am backing up one of my windows servers, I get many of these in the activity log and the backup will hang and not do anything. It hangs and no other job gets to back up.
Can anyone help on this?
We have upgraded from AS 6.6 to AS 2000. I have noticed the same thing with some of our tapes too. The show up in the drive as <Unreadable Media>.
Erasing the tape does no good. But it you format it first then erase it to make it blank again, the problem goes away.
Give it a try, it may...
They need to select manager from the drop down menu items, I believe it is either the 2nd or 3rd item. In there are the Job Status, device, Utilities, Backup, Database, etc managers.
Some of the lines are as follows:

I have a DLT tape that was backed up in Arcserve 6.61 with a FasTor DLT8000. I am using the same drive on our recently converted to Arcserve 2000. I get the error E3801. When I go to the support site for AS and check on that error, there is not much info as what to do with it.
I did however...
Disregard my last statement. After further review, I was wrong in say that. It did not use a 2nd seq 1 tape because there were no other jobs following it...dah!
Anyway, I am still struggling with the problem. I am starting to become suspicious of my tape drives. I was at AS's tech site this...
Each tape would have to have a unique name, different from the others.
These tapes should be mounted in the libraries. When the job is scripted, under destination, highlight the tape that is to be used. In options, select overwrite for the first and append for each after.
