Well the time has come. I have now been tasked with upgrading our ESX5.0 hosts to ESX5.5. Currently I have 10 ESX hosts but 6 of them are pretty old so im looking at introducing 4 new blades with 256Gb of ram and 2 x 6core CPU's and decomm the oldest ones.
Im going to pretty much keep the...
Thanks for the replies. Our 5.0 environment uses DRS rules and we do intend on introducing a new set of servers which will have 5.5 installed so we can decomm the older servers (currently 5.0 RU3) We are also looking at introducing distributed switches and redesigning our networking layout...
Hi.. please excuse the noob question but I have a challenge that slightly exceeds my knowledge of vCenter.
We have a V5.0 install of vCenter and its not very well!! in fact its struggling to boot. We have a nice new shiny server to install vCenter5.5 on (only version we can install now!) What...
HI
I am not a VB scripter.. I can look through a script and make some changes but wholesale changes are not really something I have tried before.
Anyway. What I am trying to do is start to add some functionality to the SYDI-server documentation scripts, I dont know if anyone has already done...
Go with option 1! Co-exist 5.5 with 2003 and move you mailboxes and replicate your PF's - rehome your PF's and make sure your SMTP config on 2003 is sound before knocking off your 5.5 server. Pay attention to your First in Site roles on 5.5 to make sure you rehome things like Free busy/...

Any ideas or processes appreciated!
It seems as though your DNS may not be working right.. try creating another A record in your Forward lookup zone with a different name pointing to your IP address. Then try and ressolve that name from nslookup or from a client. Then try accessing your OWA using that servername.
The other solution for the initial and subsequent issue is to right click internet explorer, Properties, click security tab, and reduce the security level from high to medium. This still safeguards your IE without having to remove the Security pack and allows you to customise the security...
Make sure your 2000 domain dc's are serviced packed to SP4. Check on microsoft knowledge base for the GPO tool which checks you GPO against your permissions. Sorry i dont have the link to hand.
The simple answer is... generally it wont. Because authentication through AD when you have a mixed environment clients will 99.9% of the time authenticate to a 2003 DC (which is you AD PID FSMO Roles PDC emulator). You can prove the point by putting another 2003 dc on your test lan and seeing if...
