Yes as you can tell I am very new to FreeBSD and UNIX. In a Windows environment there is a domain controller. Is there a similar beast for FreeBSD or UNIX as a whole? If so can someone point me in the direction of a resource that would describe this process. If not, is there a reason why...
One way you can check to see what is happening with the folders is to turn on auditing for those resources. If you want to audit resources on a specific machine use the Local Security Policy console found in the Admin tools. After enabling auditing go to the folder you want to monitor, right...
While this is more of a netowrk question than a server question...did you also have to enable the IP port 47 for gre also or just the TCP ports for PPTP or L2TP/IPSec?
No good question! If I use NSLOOKUP all the results come back as expected with the proper server name other characteristics expected when using that command....
We are actually trying to browse the network resources in active directory not thru network neighborhood. I know there are many other issues invovled in setting up a domain so users can browse the network neighborhood (WINS, NetBIOS et al...). I have actually set up another W2K Domain and all...
All,
I have an odd situation here...we have set up Windows 2000 Server, SP 2. DNS and DHCP is set up and working correctly. We did not install WINS since all of the clients are either W2K Pro or XP Pro. If a user tries to browse for a resource in the Active Directory, none are visible...
The show ver command will display the what the config-reg is set to.
Do you mean a static route? The syntax for a static route is ip route network mask address|interface distance
Hope this helps!
How is your router booting? What is the value of your config-register? If the value is 0x102 thru 0x10F the routr should boot from NVRAM...if the config-reg value is 0x101 then it is booting from ROM...I think! Good luck let us know!
Have you applied SVC Pak 3? I had a similar problem and never did get RRAS to start again until until we completely re built the server. Does RRAS actually start?
Ok, it is possible I am a bit confused here but we just took a W2K server out of an ICS scenario so I know it works...one of the NICs (let's call it NIC A) should be connected to your DSL modem. NIC A should have a TCP/IP address assigned to it that is on the same network as the LAN side of...
Is it necessary to create an ACL allowing TCP port 1723 for PPTP or IP 115? The reason I even ask this is if the packet is traversing the router wouldn't the implicit deny any toss any packets using the offending ports?
All theory since I don't have any equipment to try it on...Just a thought!
I know this should be an easy question but am not 100% sure my thought is correct and before I discuss it with others thought I would ask y'all...If you perform a net send, will everyone get it even if they are across a router? Routers are designed not to forward any broadcasts anything it...
Have a look at this link to eventid.net...After reading the contributors comments your DNS settings may not be correct on your DNS server. Side question...are you running in native or mixed? If mixed, are you using WINS?
If you are backing up to a single tape have a look at this article. I have used it and has proven successful!

good luck
Are you using PPTP or L2TP? If you are using PPTP port 1723 is correct. However if you are using L2TP you will have to open an IP port 115.
Also, if you have problems with the PPTP you might have top open IP 47 for GRE. Wish I understood the GRE portion better, sometimes the port has to be...
