Actually, now the new CompTIA A+ exams won't be available until near the end of the third quarter of 2003 (after November 11, 2003).
Next month they will start adding questions from the new exams, in sort of a beta period - but you will not be graded on the new questions, and they will not...
It's never to early to get started, and you're never too young. Good for you!

I know it can be a pain to read about dinosaur computers, but if the exam still covers anything to do with those subjects, the books have to cover it. Additionally, certification books cover a lot of dinosaur material because that background can help you grasp important new concepts.

especially considering I'm already under contract for an A+ book for the new objectives which come out in March 2003 - hint hint.
I'm pretty sure the objectives are changing at that time, or all of the publishers that have contracted new books to be released at that time...

At the end of March 2003 the objectives for CompTIA's A+ exam will change. The new exam will actually be available earlier, but there will be a grace period until the end of March 2003 for those wishing to write the exam under the current objectes (2001).

Back when I wrote the A+ exams I took them both the same day - mind you at that time they were 70 question exams and I was exhausted at the end of it.
Whether to take them both at the same time or separately really depends on you. Some people prefer to take them both at the same time...
XP will not appear on the exam until the next revision in March 2003.
