Hello JimLal,
No, port 1 should not be missing! Is this under network connections? If so, you might have a driver problem...
support site for your product is on http://support.intel.com/support/network/adapter/pro100/pro100busii/

With wireless it always pays to measure your house... ie in some houses (due to materials in the house) the radio signal won't get very far. This is especially the case with 802.11a.I would see if your reseller will let you try the wireless out with a 30 day money back garantuee.
Things that can...
Toshiba's have a bios setting for 16/32 bit (Cardbus=32 bit)
Find the pc card controller mode. You do not want this on auto.. this does not work well.. Set it to cardbus/16 bit or the other one pcic i think. Just try which one owrks with your card
enjoy!
access points don't talk to each other in normal mode (except behind the scenes). You need to set up a bridge (wlap mode) for one AP to froward stuff to the other
tom, 2.4 Ghz and up is not necesarily line of sight. 802.11a and b both work fine through walls. at least at low speeds. but maybe gprs is a solution although it's only 50kbps
The problem with bluetooth is all the different profiles... isdn, dial-up networking, lan, serial, obex, etc etc... Two bluetooth devices arfe not necessarily compatible unless they support the same profile.. and that can get annoying.
It works a treat when 2 devices are compatible though
Also...
I know that at least with intel wireless, you can set up a bridge. This might be possible with linsys as well. But, be aware, that the bridge connection with 802.11b is only 11 Mbps shared, so all machines share that 11Mbps connection. 802.11a... drool... is out as well, with a lot less...
Check the advanced setting of the network card in start->setting->device manager->your network card->properties->advanced If there is any matching settings, make sure they're the same, any differing once, try changing 'em... one by one
Use start->run->command and then ipconfig /release...
Josh,
according to http://support.intel.com/support/peripherals/xc/XPsupport.htm drivers for this modem are included in windows xp so it should be a breeze!
Note however, that if this does not work, there is no support from xircom (intel) :D
nota,
You can use xircom pcmcia modems to connect via a mobile phone, in either of two ways:
1. with a special cable nokia 6162 is not listed at http://support.intel.com/support/network/xc/gsmconnect.htm
so it probably won't work. It might do if it has the same connector as one of the nokia...
