I'm running Debian on an old laptop with a wireless card. How can I "search" for available networks? (In windows, I can bring up a screen that shows all the networks it can see)

I have AOL on XP Pro, and just ran Avast. Now I can't get AOL mail. I can bring up AOL's main screen, but when I check to log in, the login screen won't come up. Any thoughts?

Definitely malware. I got rid of the malware, but still have these two problems.

I can't change the background - when I right click on the background, then go to Properties, then the Desktop tab, all of the selections in the scroll box are disabled. Also, IE won't save my default website, it goes to blank.
