Thanks for the replies, The problem still stands that I cannot add a high speed controller by updating the drivers. I have tried burning a DVD on an external usb drive but it much slower than it used to be. I can't understand why windows update will no longer update the drivers. Luke.

Yes because when ever I plug in my USB memory pen or my external DVD burner a message pops-up saying device could perform faster if it were plugged into a usb 2.0 drive. I have been able to update the drivers to usb 2.0 in the pasrt with no problems.
