Umm, Debian "Sarge" is pretty easy to install. Pop the CD in, reboot, then just answer the basic questions about how you want to configure your system. The software choice screen is blindingly simple; choose "Desktop System", "Web Server", "File Server", etc. The most difficult part may be...
Hello,
I am developing a Front Page application for use at the company I work for. However, when I click on a link to an Access 97 database, it opens once (after a longer than usual pause), then about 45 seconds later it opens again. Word files and Excel files open only once like they should...
That's pretty much what I was doing. I think I found the problem. Mozilla like to take some files and put it in temporary storage, regardless if you want it too or not. This doesn't happen with the Access databases, but only with Word and Excel files.
Using IE, I don't have this problem.

Hello,
We are trying to use front page as a gateway for our companies internal network. However, it seems that when a file is opened from Frontpage, a copy of the file is made on the client machine and then opened locally. We would prefer to be able to open the files directly from the...
GRUB should be able to handle all that, I don't know how to set it all up though. However, you can use smart boot manager:
http://btmgr.sourceforge.net/
It's ugly, but works. Put it on a floppy and you can boot anything from any partition without having to setup a lot of stuff. Good for...
Yes, a MISSING activeX reference. It is unnecessary for the program so I disabled, now everything works fine.
Apparently installing an ActiveX control for an explorer tree on my development computer caused some sort of take over of my other activeX stuff.
Thanks,
Matt
Okay guys, this is a weird one I can't quite figure out. I will be as descriptive as possible.
Running office97 on windows 98SE.
On one report on just Some machines a text box with a control source of:
=Date()
will not work correctly. At first it told me 'The function you entered...
Speaking of Total Cost of Ownership. What about the cost of maintaining your mountain of windows licenses?
I would like to see a comparison of cost from running a nt4 server (which a lot of small and medium size business still have, such as the business I work for.) and a *nix server. You...
Hello,
We have a small network of about 25 users running windows 98 SE with a server running windows NT 4 (sp 6). The server stores many office 97 (sp2b) files that the clients must be able to reach.
Periodically, word and excel documents will take a very long time to load. Often when this...
They choose MS everything so they don't have to think and so they don't have to trust their more knowledgable subordinates. Managers like to think they know all about computers, make their own decision what is 'best' but they don't want to spend the energy/time to actually learn what is best...
Hello,
We have a Proliant 800 server capabable of dual processors, with only one currently. Is adding a second processor simply a matter of installing it, or are there issues in NT I will have to watch out for. Also, can I simply remove the second processor and return to our original...
I will be doing an upgrade as well in the near future. Are there any 'Gotchas' to watch out for not mentioned in that article? Is SQL2000 100% compatible with everything used in SQL7, will I have some restructuring to do?
Thanks,
Matt
You're right.
At the company I work for, all the clients are win98 (with winNT WS in the plant for stability), the server is NT4 and they're all running on 4 year old (at least) systems. It get's the job done, it works. Occasionally I have to replace a power supply or do a win98 re-install...
PTCruiser, you have made a point. The general public should be free to buy whatever product they want, be it overpriced windows, or other.
Our tax dollars, however, should go for the lowest priced alternative.
Isn't this how it works with other government funding--contract to the lowest...
