Sounds like a stuck key or bad keyboard to me , I had replaced a keyboard on a toshiba with the same porblem. Strange that you don't get any error codes when it boots up .check in the bios to see if you can set it to report errors spificaly keyboard.

The OS should not matter in the least , most likely you problem is from a bad cable or power suppily connection. I have had the same problem and it came down to a loose power connection at one of the power splitting cords.

Do you have autorun turned on , if so before it writes the lead out your system is reconizing the CD and the software is aborting the writting process.

You say your monitor is blank , kind of sounds like you have a problem with the video card. try another video card and see if you get video. A dead video card will not allow a computer to boot. Does the computer give any beep codes such as a long tone followed by two short ones?
