That's not necessarily a heat issue. It could be, but may be not. I worked on a system that did something similar (lock-up times were random during 3D games). Turns out it was a faulty power supply. If you have an extra handy, swap out PS's.

Also, you may not be able to back up your BIOS upon it being flashed. Be very careful when you're doing it this way... or you could get burned!. The other way that I've seen a BIOS flashed is through the use of a Windows app that has a way of backing up your old one (with a method of restoring...
Ah CC21, but unlike gasoline, dakota81 has stated something very important: "... grab a stick of DDR400, even if your fsb may be 333MHz...the benefit being your next upgrade you will not have to replace the ram again." I would love to see regular as clean and as well as premium...
It's possible to image your samller drive onto a larger drive IF there are no other changes to the configuration of your computer (ie new mobo, proc, etc). Also, keep in mind that your image will only be as good as the original... any faults you have now will be on the image and will be on the...
The real kicker is this: match your ram's bus with that of your board's and your cpu... if your cpu's fsb is only 333, your board's 400, go with the PC 2700 because you're only going to bottleneck at the proc if you get the 3200 ram.
edemiere, have you ever thought about modding your case with a blowhole? (that's a giant sucker of a fan mounted so it blows the air out the top of the case). Heat rises and will dissipate with cool, free moving air and a place to vent to (see diagram).

Actually, I think that it may not be too bad a board to pick up. It offers quite a bit and it would appear that you would have a lot of options for upgrading in the future. That's just my take on it.

It all depends on the the type of board, processor and ram. A newer mobo will probably take PC2100 (266) DDR ram but it won't take Pc-133. It could take a range of processors (Duron/Athlon/Athlon XP but not a K6). It depends as well on front-side bus (FSB) too. You can't use a 100 fsb cpu in a...
I agree with dakota81 that you should go with a slower clock speed in a processor to ensure you don't overheat your system.
I've had some pretty bad experience with working on micro-atx mobos but as stated above; if you're using it just for work, integrated video is nice and easy to work with...
Sorry to hear about your problem, but it sounds like you friend the poor girl...
Don't worry too much about it; you're not the only one (I've done it myself). You can probably cash in on the warranty and get a new or at least talk to the guy who sold it to you and see if you can get an exchange...
I have to agree with Nate1749. Asus is a good brand and MSI isn't bad. I've heard Soyo was pretty decent, but I've never had one.
I guess it also depends on your proc too. If you have an AMD, Asus or MSI is your best bet; For Intel, Asus and Intel are your best bet. Intel chips can get cranky...
Nate1749, I really don't recommend a particular brand... they are basically a dime a dozen. So long as you get a couple that work. I've got some Speeze in my computer. They're already encased in heat-shrink tubing and are really quiet.
