sorted it out:
I had an error in my /etc/netsvc.conf entry:
changed it from:
hosts = nis, files
to :
hosts = local, nis
after this change local Hosts is used for name resolution at boot time.
It looks like the automatic mouts are perfomed before ypbind deamon is started. Thats why i entered these hosts in the local /etc/hosts File to be able to mount them at startup.
But it still does not work

I'm running AIX 4.3.3 ML 9,
using NIS and Hosts file for name resolution, NO DNS.
At boot Time the automatic NFS mounts are not performed.
in /var/adm/ras/bootlog the following error is displayed:

Configuration time: 24 seconds

Your'e right!
I added the following line to /etc/netsvc.conf :
hosts = nis, files
after that the name resolution did also work with sendmail.
Thanks for your help

Dear all,
I try to forward all mails for root to our Lotus Notes box here. I run AIX 5.2 system without DNS, only NIS is used for name resolution.
I now added my email adress to the .forward file in root's Homedir.
then i added an entry mydomain.com to the local hosts file.
with this...
they're SCSI disks ... but i found that the ser.Nr. is on a small sticker on the head-side of the disks, so i can get the S/N with "lscfg -vl hdisk10" and then look for the disk with that S/N.

maybe the console Port speed is not set to 9600 on your router, i'm not realy sure, but there is a possibility to reset is to default ( which is 9600 ) maybe using a jumper on the board ...
Try to find something like this in your users guide ...

fmonteiro:

fmonteiro:
writing the MAC in other syntax doesn't solve the Problem...
ip dhcp pool 7e35kt8zj0rd
host xx.xx.178.101 255.255.255.0
hardware-address 0008.0294.7c9b ieee802
!
euitmi02#sho ip dhcp bind
Bindings from all pools not associated...
So as i understand from you comments it is not possible to reserve an IP address for a specified MAC address, only by excluding the IP from DHCP and make it static ?
I dont want to make the IP static, because the machine is a laptop of a person who travels a lot to other company locations...
