When going through the steps of the article, the problem is I only get to step 7, step 8 does not work - first: "Interactive user" is disabled and cannot be clicked, and, second, when choosing "This user"...
The following messages have begun appearing in my Event Viewer -
"Source: DCOM // Access denied attempting to launch a DCOM Server using DefaultLaunchPermssion. The server is: 00020906-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} The user is Unavailable/Unavailable, SID=Unavailable."

Outlook amateur here -
I'm about to reinstall Win2K and then Office 2K. What files must I save to rebuild Outlook 2000 after the reinstall?
I want to be able save all my current emails (inbox, sent, drafts), contacts and email account-settings.

Thanks all for now - Simply renaming the machine back to its old name didn't work, so I'll have a look at the suggested docs.
About the temp-files: No old leftovers exist as far I can see. Newly created docs immedeately create a temp-file in the same directory. Normally they are deleted...
wait a minute - I may have made a grave mistake... when re-installing my OS I gave my computer another name.
Does the old files carry with them such metadata? that is can "[oldMachineName]/Everyone" still be lurking as owner/user of the files when I now try to use them as...
It's WORD2000 and DDE-errors. When opening a doc - an old pre-reinstall OR newly created - Word claims the doc is locked and "used by another user" (that's the exact expression, not the usual "used by [username]" as if the system interprets my machine as part of a multi-user...
I've just reinstalled my OS (Win2KPRO) on C: after having formatted the drive. On an extended D: I kept a backup of all my files (easy now: I also have them on CD:s...).
Now, after the reinsatll I realize the system volume info folder on d: may be the 'old one' and I do experience some curious...
After a reinstall of Win2K and Office 2000 the following occurs every time I try to open my word-docs:
Message:
"Would you like to return to the saved version of [doc-name]?"
This despite the doc is opened directly and no other 'user' is sharing it with me. Clicking no generates a...
After a reinstall of the OS (Win2KPRO) and reinstall of drivers my two CD:s (a master r and slave r/w on IDE channel 2) behaves mysteriously -
Both have trouble reading and, when tried on the same CD, in the the event viewer -
. the master r generates an ERROR and is stated as "having a...
After a reinstall of the OS (Win2KPRO) curious things happen:
IE 6.0X
After a few minutes using IE an error invarably occurs: the "svchost.exe" reports trying to acces a memory segment but the segment "can't be read" (and the Visual C++ debugger states "access...
I run Win2KPRO. I have two users, both admins, on the machine - let's call them A and B. When installing AVG Free as user A, the "View source"-option in IE stops working but only for user A (applies both to main- and context menus) - the item is present on the menus but Notepad simply...
1) In the Event viewer these errors have become standard for these components/services: W3SVC, SMTPSVC, and MSFTPSVC
"The server was unable to register the administration tool discovery information. The administration tool may not be able to see this server. The data is the error...
