Sheesh, and I thought TFTs sucked up less juice than the CRTs... mine's a CRT, btw, and one of the reasons I was considering getting a flat panel display, apart from being lightweight and the coolness factor, was that I thought they consumed less energy.
Thanks for the info :)
You know, I hate it when this happens... I totally forgot to do a Google search on that... just focused on checking Shuttle's site, writing them, and writing here. Feeling really stoopid right now, nothing new there though. :)
Anyway, you're right. The mobo is too much for 98... I'm glad that...
Hmm... how about a WinXP laptop and a Win98se machine that don't see each other? What steps do I take to know whether the culprit is the LAN driver in my desktop PC or my lack of experience configurating these things?
I know the onboard LAN in my desktop PC works since I use it without...
Ugh, thank heavens I asked here first before making the mistake of installing ME :P... I appreciate the info.
In my PC, I have XP in a Fat32 partition. I was paranoid when I first installed XP so, in case XP died on me or something, I wanted to be able to "see" and rescue any files from the XP...
Ouch, is it THAT bad? The time between Win98 and XP is a "dead zone" of sorts to me... I used 98, and much (*much*) later switched to XP, so I don't have direct experience with any OS in between. All I knew was that ME is supposedly the last "version" of Win98, so I thought it couldn't be that...
I'm kind of fed up with Win98, and would like to switch to ME. The only reason I still have 98 in a dual-boot system with XP is that XP (that I know of) cannot be installed/reinstalled from pure DOS... and I use 98 if I need to repair the XP installation or wipe it out and reinstall it.
I...
I have simple file sharing disabled in both PCs. In "Shared Documents Properties> Permissions" in my laptop, the group "Everyone" has all boxes under "Allow" checked. Same thing in my desktop machine. Still, it works only one way so far...
Any other place I should tinker with?
Ed.
Yikes, I was about to post practically the same problem, I hope you don't mind if I piggyback on your post....
In my case, there's a laptop with a wireless LAN card from Linksys and a desktop PC connected with a Cat5e cable to a Wireless G Linksys router. Both have Win XP Pro, but my laptop has...
bcastner: Ok, I'll try an SP2 install first, and post my results here....
I don't know if the following details will be good enough or too vague, but here they come:
The first time I started noticing an unusual slowness was during startup. It always took some time to load, granted, but not as...
Hmm, that option didn't cross my mind...I'll think about it. I haven't ordered the new PS yet...
Heck, I may do both things, since I was planning to build a new PC anyway, and give the "old one" with the lesser drives to my niece. I use Photoshop quite a bit, and having a 200 GB HDD would give...
Lately, my TOSHIBA Satellite Pro 4600 (800 mHz PIII, 256 MB RAM, 20 MB HDD, TOSHIBA DVD-ROM, latest drivers on everything) has become unusually slow with XP. It was never blindingly fast, but decently so, so the difference now is noticeable. I checked the loaded programs with CodeStuff Starter...
