what os are you running? you can use the scan cmd to see what drives are able seen by the server that is controlling you robotic. and obvious the device monitor thru the gui will tell you drive NBU currently has configured

I use bpmedialist -summary | grep -i frozen check out your bptm log to see WHEN the tape was frozen. you will have to do a little more snooping to what exact drive did the freezing of the media

yeah, robtest is the best way to know that you can talk to your robot. if you don't get a "mode sense complete", chances are it is not set up correctly or it is a hardware problem
