The site is, for example, is www.site.us, while the domain is name.local.

Why not move the roles before removing the 2003 server? I think that would be cleaner than having to go through the whole process of forcibly seizing the roles.
The closest thing you can get to that is the Automated system recovery wizard, which you can get to via windows backup.
