I have had the same problems with scandisk & defrag. Now what I will do is bootup in safe mode, click on start, programs, accessories, system tools, maintenance wizard and go to bed. The next morning all is done.

I don't see anything checked in the startup programs that would trigger the message. This doesn't cause any problems so I guess I will live with the message coming up when it wants to.

This is a followup to this problem. I have been getting the the message even after shutting down properly. Any help to correct this will be appreciated.

Every time I bootup Windows 98SE, I get the following message. Please wait while setup updates your config. files. This even when I haven't made any changes. Can anyone give me some advise on this problem? Thanks in advance.

Thanks to wolluf for the heads up on what my BIOS might recognize. It did not recognize an 80 GB drive. Instead of trying to upgrade the BIOS, I chose to get a 30 GB drive and clone it. I used the Drive2Drive software and it worked perfectly. Now I have a nice size 30 GB master drive.
