You'll usually find a file system backup fails to catch open log files and the databases. Something with a proper database agent or mailbox agent will do the job better. You could run that alongside a File System backup which avoids the Stores.

You will need enough space to hold a new copy of the database with some free space left over. The defrag operation will create a new copy of the Info Store, I think MS recommended free space is 110% of the existing IS Size. Hope this helps David
