Can 16 bit .exes be served from Win2K server?

By all rights, it should work, I would be looking at your permissions on the share you are attempting to run it off of. Make sure the users have "execute" Hope this helps Cryptospy

    IT/IS - Bored...

Okay, I don't know if this happens to many of you, but I've found that when things are working perfectly, which they seem to have been the last couple of days, I've been quite bored, sitting, staring at my monitor, monitoring the connections. What do you recomend I do during the day that things...

duplicate name on network while theres only one?

Do you have two NIC's in the server? I found if you disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP for one NIC, it works properly. Cryptospy

    Only admin can log in

It has to do with the max/min age of the passwords. Microsoft recomends certain settings that tend to cause big problems... (Suprised?) In the min password age setting, set it to 0 (No minimum age) and try it again. Cryptospy

    Software Based RAID (W2K Server)

I usually try to use a hardware based RAID solution, but in this particular case, it was not seen as an available option. I decided to mirror two identical IBM Deskstar Drives with w2k Diskmanager MMC. After completing the mirror, it mentioned I have to enter something into the boot.ini to...

    Workstation Names

Re: Large Corp's naming systems. They probably revert to something similar to what Shaw@home wants you to use for your computer name. IE CS2094123. For the servers, I have always beleived in having a theme... for example, space shuttle names, or famous scientists. At one small location, I...

Moving OS to new Server ??

Okay, here's the low down. We decided to setup a "really nice workstation" as a server to test some things. We are running W2K Server w/ TS. We have a lot of stuff setup and it has acutally gone into full operation. Due to the lack of redundant hardware though, we would like to...

How can I NOT show system tray in Terminal services clients?

Yes, but I believe you can select in the OU Policies what shell you can use. Progman is the old program manager from windows 3.1 days but it works pretty good... I used it when I first moved over to windows 95. :) It might really confuse your users though... bonus side, no system tray. Cryptospy

How can i stop users visiting Adult Sites in work Time?

I'll second what Jrjuiliano has... Usage policys are the most effective. I have presented the managers of offending employees with logs of connections to various adult/non work related sites and they have been dealt with swiftly. If they are aware of the consequences, I doubt they will risk...

    Terminal Services - Disconnection Problems

Thank you for the reply. As I didn't have time to sit and watch my pings, I downloaded networkview and setup the ISP gateways and the local gateways at each location. I have found that an ADSL provider has not been having much luck keeping one of their gateways online. Now I have the IP, I'll...

    Terminal Services - Disconnection Problems

Here's the situation. I have multiple branch offices connecting to our terminal server to input data. Periodically they get disconnected. One particular location is having unusually high disconnection rates. All the clients are on either DSL or Cable connections. Our network in the...

How can I NOT show system tray in Terminal services clients?

You may want to consider running the progman.exe shell. Just a thought.. Try looking for a policy that disables the system tray. Cryptospy

    Preventing access to local HDD

Its more headaches than your probably after. Programs need the right to be able to create/modify/delete files on your local computer. You may want to look into a third party peice of software, or, if you are on a w2k domain, create policys, preventing them from traversing folders and drives...
