Sometimes one or the other floppy drive is slightly out of alignment, and therefore can read disks formated by it, but not by another. I don't know if this applies to your situation or not.
check in the ini files for a line that reads "run="
You get there by typing sysedit under run in the start menu.
if explorer is after the run= command then just edit it out.

In the future, the reason you were getting bad command messages for everything you typed is because if you were booting to the prompt, the path wouldn't be set.
after booting to the prompt, you need to type "path c:\windows\command" and then all your old dos commands will work
If its a bios password your having a problem with, you have to a) remove the battery on the mobo for a few seconds then replace. or b) some boards have a jumper to perform the same function.
When you reboot the password should be gone.
