You can just disable the remote registry service in services, a more drastic option is to remove file & print service which will disable the server service I think, I am not sure if typing net use ipc$ /delete will stop it though as this disables the remote share. Cheers.

Try running "c:\program Files\common Files\microsoft Shared\photoEd\photoed.exe" /regserver
This will re-associate jpg files with the built in photo editor program.
Either your DHCP or static network settings at fault or it is not caching the profile locally first I'll bet. If it is using DHCP, try adding a static address to test.
