ata/133 are fine if you are thinking for an upgrade soon else it will just be a waste of money as none of your present device is ata/133
think before you spend
since your fan is working it means that your powersupply is fine now the only indication is your cpu or the motherboard if it dosent work even on the bench then you can use it as a $26 trophy

i do that type of stuff i just take another motherboard exactly the same as the one with corrupt bios i boot the system with the healthy bios and then hot swap the bios with the one that is corrupt then i use award flash this method has helped me with a lot of motherboards but on hot swapping...
though it is not the proper way but you can try using Disk Manager that comes with Seagate HDD
just typr DM/X at the command prompt

what are you upgrading the system for if it is for a server environ then the dual processor architecture is fine but if it is a home pc then i dont see any use of a dual processor environment
a faulty battry can be a prob if it is totally gone try another battry once i had to face a similar prob in a client's laptop and it was due to the charging unit not charging the battry at all so better check these two aspects
man i have a hard disk which has beenmaking hissins sound for the past 6 months but it is working fine so nothing to worry but keep a look at your system internal to see if some cable is not disturbins the cpu fan
check the fdd settings in the cmos setup also could be a problem of head misalignment i haad a problem like this in which a floppy drive would not read any floppy formatted or copied on other drives but would read one that was formatted on it better check and keep us informed

well a lot of factors come into the action the laser quality the cd quality the physical placement of the player or the drivr while reading or while writing sometimes even the age of the player matters because the laser quality differs with age the alignment also changes with time the same way...
man i would have straightaway gone for a switch as hubs that are not cascaded are prone to collisions and it also reduces the network throughput if company funds permit why not go in for switch network
