Try using REGMON. I had a similar problem and ended up giving permission for USERS in HKLM\software\microsoft\office and allowed 'Set Value' and 'Create Subkey' I set it at this level to hope that it would sort out any other problems.

Hi Dave ... thank for your reply. unfortantly this doesn't work. Have tried a completely new admin user and made the changes and then logged in with a brand new user and the sub folders still showed in with large icons instead of the details view that I want. Thanks Alan
