Redistributing default static route into RIPv2

Hello, I have two routers connected to a vlan, which also has a firewall connecting the network to the Internet. Both the routers and the firewall are running RIPv2. Now, one of the routers has a static default route pointing to the firewall interface. That router is also reditributing that...

Book(s) for CCIP - QoS Exam

Thanks Lerdalt. I will surely consider your recommendation. Just one thing before I go for it - has it got lab based scenarios and configuration examples. Regards. _______________________________________ Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day...

Book(s) for CCIP - QoS Exam

Hello, I am about to start with my CCIP-QoS preparation and was wondering about the best book for this purpose. I came across the QoS Exam Certification Guide (2nd Edt) but was not sure as I have found these exam certification guides to skim on essential elements of any technology/solution. I...

    ExtremeNetworks: XFP, XFP and XENPAK

Hello Guys, I need to figure the difference between the following module types: 1) SFP. 2) XFP. 3) XENPAK. I believe the difference would be in terms of speed and optical/electrical forms but still wanted to be sure. Thanks and regards, Abid _______________________________________ Courage...

Help when purchasing a new router.

Just one thought or word of caution. Why only one router? What about resilience? I would have thought of getting two routers for HA. _______________________________________ Courage does not always roar. Peering across p2p or LAN for RIP

    I have to peer two CEs with two other C (internal customer routers over RIPv2 as follows: C1 C2 | | | | CE1---C2 CE2----C1 C1--------C2 : already in place Peer: CE1 with C1 and C2 Peer: CE2 with C1 and C2 C1...

    Redistributing RIPv2 into BGPv4

I have a customer solution requiring mutual redistribution between RIPv2 and BGP, for resilience. I have used distribute-list on both in and out directions to avoid routing loop. R1----------RIP------------R4 | | RIP RIP |...

Routing protocol peering with HSRP Virtual IP and Virtual Router

Hello Minue, I have end up in a situation on a production network where I have to multihome a customer network with service provider using BGP. It is an MPLS solution and the service provider wants to use BGP for PE-CE. The reason I was testing peering with HSRP is that the customer is using...

    BGP Policy Routing

Hello Belushi - I have done some testing with route-map and distribute lists. With both of these you need to use ACLs or as you said (set/match) communitties. Using communitties in my limited experience might not be much different then using tags. I have a feeling that using either tags or...

Routing protocol peering with HSRP Virtual IP and Virtual Router

Hello, I tried to run RIPv2 on a LAN in between 3 routers, where R1 and R2 were in an HSRP group, and R3 was the other physical router. What I noticed was R3 would use the physical addresses of R1 and R2 instead of the virtual IP address on the HSRP standby group. I even tried the...

    Redistributing RIPv2 into BGPv4

Yup I know it is free but what I was thinking that as this is the sole resource one has access to during the lab, I could get myself into the habbit of using it and getting to know it better. Anyways will do with the online one instead.

    Redistributing RIPv2 into BGPv4

I meant documentation about this specific feature of redistributing default route from IGP into BGP. Again, you could be right as I might not have been looking in the right place. Any chance I could purchase this set of doc on DOC-CD or Product/Technology Support Page? I guess not !!

    Redistributing RIPv2 into BGPv4

Thanks Cluebird. Just wondering why BGP does that and why isnt this fact well documented in Cisco docs - atleast I couldnt find it in quite a few Cisco press and web site resources. There has to be a reason for this. Not that I am trying to be too nosy but just that am interested in finding...

    Redistributing RIPv2 into BGPv4

This is what I have found to be: Internet gateway <--- R1---(RIP)---R2---(BGP)--- R3 (200.1.1.0) 1)redistribute static under RIP and a default route on R1 If network 0.0.0.0 statement given under R2: propatates a route to 200.1.1.0 and a default route as well under bgp across to R3 If...

    Redistributing RIPv2 into BGPv4

I have noticed one more thing: on R1 if i set a default route pointing out to the Internet interface, and set the network 0.0.0.0 command under RIP on R1 - this propagates a route the Internet interface [200.1.1.0] throughout RIP on both R2 and BGP on R3.
