    Do you run defrag?

    That seems to be the concensus here. A lot of people are defragging and with all the disk activity on a server, it just makes sense to do regular defrags on the server. Even on desktop computers, Windows creates and deletes a lot of temp files. Like you said, it won't hurt doing a regular defrag.

    I don't know what they're talking about. I am a network administrator and manage multiple servers and have never heard of that problem. Defragging a workstation has nothing to do with the server. I just downloaded a defrag program and configured it to run in the background. I'll find out...

    dos directory pathing

    Are you doing this? cd\docume~1\alluse~1\docume~1\websites\htdocs\mysubd~1\galler~1\imgs\thumbs~1 You mention that you only get as far as img, there might be an 8 sub folder limit. Just like DOS naming can only take 8 characters.

    You can also try uninstalling your network card from Device Manager. Restart your computer and Windows should automatically install the network card and whatever driver it needs. You should also perform regular disk cleanup and defrag.

    system 32 flagged with virus

    A lot of the viruses install executable files to Windows and windows\system32. It could have been a virus or a spyware on the system32 folder that Norton wanted to delete. Download Microsoft's AntiSpyware and run it a few times. Perform disk cleanup and disk defrag on your hard drive too.
