Is it possible to download the files for a J series handset and use it on an existing 9.1 platform?

Nope Rhino, the system does not recognize at all the whole series, it means you can't use the Avaya IP Endpoint licenses, even if available in the system

You can load H323 firmware on them. Then they will be seen as 96x1. But tbh I don't know if this works for all J-Series phones.

H.323 firmware is allowed on specific models only but, anyway, the problem remains 'cause even if in H.323 they won't be recognized as Avaya devices, you'll need a 3rd pty ip endpoint license.

I dint think so. As they are recognized as 9611G it should consume an Avaya IP endpoint license. Additionally it is full featured like a 9611 phone.

The J169 and J179 at least in H323 are recognised as a 9611 and use an Avaya endpoint license - not a 3rd party license.

I used them for years before upgrading my system from 9.1 to 11.

There's some limitations such as the Bluetooth/Wifi module doesn't work but otherwise they look and act like a 9611.

BTW just for fun I connected a 9611g on an old IPO Small Office Edition I had in storage and it actually booted all the way to Contacting Call Server then displays lines a,b,c,d but then just keeps cycling Discover 292.268.42.1

Forgot to mention that it asked for an extension, password and actually created the extension in manager

SHAUN E. how did you get them to work as H323?

In the admin setting on the phone change Signalling to H323. You will need to have the firmware on your IP office/TFTP server/whatever and when it reboots it will flash the H323 firmware You can also set it in your 46xxsettings with "SET SIG 1".

Once the firmware has been changed to H323 they will act as a 9611G and are configured the same way.

This is the firmware you need:

Here's the thread I made when I first did it almost 5 years ago:

Thanks, I'm heading over there now and I'll try it out and post an update.

Pardon my ignorance but where would I locate the software level for the 9600 series phones like you showed in the display above.

I'm looking around manager and I can't locate it. The 6.8.x

By the way if I don't have that from where can you tell me how to upgrade it please in version 9.1. thank you

You can download it from Avaya (it's not behind PLDS)

You can then upload the files to your IP Office using Manager.

Thanks. I just downloaded them. Do I load them in the embedded l primary folder or in a subfolder within the manager program? Thanks
