Uninstalling Acrobat 4 problems

Uninstalling Acrobat 4 problems

Uninstalling Acrobat 4 problems

I'm looking to install Acrobat 5.0 on all the client pcs but first i want to uninstall Acrobat 4.0 using SMS Installer.  Problem is when i point the installation program and command line options to the appropriate files

ie c:\winnt\isuninst.exe

-f"c:\program files\common files\adobe\acrobat 4.0\nt\uninst.isu" -c"c:\program files\common files\adobe\acrobat 4.0\nt\uninst.dll"

sms installer, during repackaging returns with the error

unable to locate the installation log file. uninstallation will not continue.

When i attempt to uninstall adobe without sms, however, it runs through no problem with installatioa log file.

Can anybody show me the way around this or what im doing wrong.

Please .. somebody respond .. appreciate it.

RE: Uninstalling Acrobat 4 problems

Interesting - I just got the same result.

My usual way round this sort of problem is to run c:\winnt\system32\notepad.exe as the installation exe - when notepad pops up, close it, run your uninstall via a dos box or batch file, and click next on Installer when it finishes.

Usually works for me.

RE: Uninstalling Acrobat 4 problems

You know, i tried that and SMS seem to compile "something" but when i run the exe file, it doesnt do what its supposed to do, ie uninstall acrobat!

Any more ideas?

Thanks Ripple

RE: Uninstalling Acrobat 4 problems

Hi Iola

OK, this is where I admit that I usually script with Wise because SMS Installer is not very reliable at spotting system changes - "buy Wise now" is my first bit of advice when I set a packaging team up.

Two possible workarounds are:

(1) As it's an Install Shield uninstall, you could always consider delivering a batch file, rather than an Installer package - it's not as elegant as a scripted solution, but it should work - using '-a' will make your uninstall non-interactive and set your program properties in SMS to run it hidden.

(2) Delve into the Script Editor and add an Execute Program line to a new blank script - it's really just the compiled equivalent of a batch file, but you have the option to run the uninstall minimized.

Hope that helps.

RE: Uninstalling Acrobat 4 problems

You beautiful, beautiful man, Ripple.  The '-a' is what ive been looking for.  So the batch file is now running non-interactively, i'll take it from there.

Thanks a lot Ripple.
