WinXP-Pro Compatibility
WinXP-Pro Compatibility
(OP)
I installed Sidekick98 on WinXP-pro when "User" had administrator priviledges using original SideKick98 CD. Program loaded without incident and ran just fine. I then sought to restrict privileges of user "user" by removing him from member of "administrators" and making him a member of "power users group." After making the change, SideKick98 would not run when under "user" log in. It gave a very mystic error message. It could still be run under "administrator" log in.
For those not familiar with WinXP-pro, each user can be assigned different administrative priviledges by the user or users classified as "administrators." In addition, only "administrators" can install and remove programs. It is desirable to normally operate a WinXP system under a user log-in that doesn't have administrative priviledges, so one cannot inadvertently add or remove a program. Users without administrative priviledges are prevented from changing certain files, perhaps the files in the "Program Files" directory.
My copy of sidekick is set so as to store the calendar and contact data on a second hard disc labeled drive F:\, so it is not changes in that data that is being prevented.
Has anyone successfully gotten SideKick98 to run on WinXP-pro when the user does not have administrative priviledges?

RE: WinXP-Pro Compatibility
What is the actual wording of the MYSTIC error message?

I'm also considering switching to a more modern program, perhaps the "AnyTime Organizer Deluxe 9.0," to avoid application incompatibilities.
RE: WinXP-Pro Compatibility
I have a copy of AnyTime Organizer Deluxe 9.0 and am distinctly 'underwhelmed' by it's Moderness!
It works but it is stretching the point when it says that you can import data from Sidekick.
Certainly the calendar is not that easy to import.
The amount of User defined fields are limited too.
But ok as a basic PIM.

It is as you say:
The Cardfile import IS limited to fixed fields in Anytime with only a few user defined but I will check again and post back?
My SK98 cards ALSO have many user defined fields (30) that don't fit the normal business model!

To do that; right click the icon and select "RunAS" from the menu, check the "The Following User" checkbox, specify which user you want and enter that user's password in the password field, and click ok. It should now run as Administrator with that account's rights.
RE: WinXP-Pro Compatibility
How were you able to import the SK98 calendar into the Anytime PIM? "Certainly the calendar is not that easy to import."
RE: WinXP-Pro Compatibility
Sorry I should have made that clearer, I didn't import the Calendar, but if I did it would have been via Outlook 2000 and then saved/Exported as a .csv file, and then imported into Anytime(Quite a palaver)!
I have never tried it however so I have no advice for anyone doing it except to BACKUP their data first.
