Peachtree corrupt .dat files

Is there any way to repair corrupt .dat files myself and put repaired files back into company folder? Will Peachtree recognize them after being repaired?
Right now Peachtree will not start-up because of 6 corrupt files.

RE: Peachtree corrupt .dat files

What are the files?

Did you never get a corrupt file error before today?

RE: Peachtree corrupt .dat files

Files are listed below, and became corrupt today after a power outage shutdown a bunch of computers on the network while peachtree was running.

chart.dat
general.dat
invchain.dat
invcost.dat
JrnlHdr.dat
JrnlRow.dat

I downloaded "Data checker for Peachtree" and after it scans all peachtree data, it lists these 6 files and being corrupt. When I try to start peachtree I get this error message:
"Unable to determine security privileges. Please retry later. This is probably due to another user temporarily blocking access to critical files."

All other computers on netweork are now turned off.

RE: Peachtree corrupt .dat files

I'd try to rebuild the files in Btrieve.  Please note that this can still cause data loss.

If that does not work out well, I'd restore from backup.  You DO have a backup, correct?

RE: Peachtree corrupt .dat files

I do have a backup but it is not as recent as I'd like. Where to I find Btrieve and how do I use it. Everything I've "Goolged" on it gives me a lot of different information that is not making much sense in regards to .dat files. Thanks.

RE: Peachtree corrupt .dat files

(OP)
I found Btrieve and it rebuilt 4 of the files successfully but 2 of the files have these statements in error log.

REBUILD-68: Status code 54 was returned while copying records from the following file:
REBUILD rejected a total of  89035 records.

Can anything be done or am I stuck backing up?

RE: Peachtree corrupt .dat files

No, this is the data loss I mentioned.

If you can find a copy of BTViewer, it has a rebuild utility in it that has saved me when Btrieve itself failed.  Access Microsystems in NJ is the author of this software but I think they went out of business.
