DPT PM1564U3 Raid 1 Performance Problems

I just recieved my SCSI Raid controller but every time I configure the RAID stripe, it comes up as SCSI 2 instead of SCSI 3 which slows it down to a crawl. I have 2 IBM 15K 160's that run at that speed unless striped. Can anyone enlighten me?

I have a TYAN S2462 motherboard and 2 2800+ MP (On board SCSI disabled)
The DPT PM1564U3 has the optional RA4060 adapter with 32M ram.
