KXTD-1232 Dropping Calls in AA Mode

KXTD-1232 Dropping Calls in AA Mode

KXTD-1232 Dropping Calls in AA Mode

(OP)
I have a KXTD-1232 that has the Automated Attendant feature turned on and for some reason it is cutting off many calls (not all and not always).  The caller hears the AA kick in and after 1-5 seconds the message cuts off and the call is dropped.

Any ideas why/when this might happen?

Thanks for your help!

RE: KXTD-1232 Dropping Calls in AA Mode

are you talking about disa or do you have a voicemail system on the ksu? high loopcurrent or maybe a talkoff problem which means the voicemail is geting touch
tone digits from some where!is it an older voicemail system?
we need more input to help you out!!

RE: KXTD-1232 Dropping Calls in AA Mode

Sorry about that!  THat would be a critical bit of info wouldn't it?  There is a TVS100 attached to the KXTD-1232.  We have 4 ports enabled to the TVS100.  I've tried resetting (power cycling) the system (and the TVS) but it didn't help.

BTW, what is the proper procedure for resetting the system (along with it's TVS)?

Thanks!

RE: KXTD-1232 Dropping Calls in AA Mode

how old is the tvs 100 I had this problem about 6 years
ago and it drove me crazy and it turned out that the co
was sending inband touchtones down the pipe and it was
making the voicemail act wierd!!!

RE: KXTD-1232 Dropping Calls in AA Mode

(OP)
It's from 1998-ish but I believe the KXTD-1232 was a demo unit when we bought it so the TVS may be too?  That was "before my time".

Is there any way to correct for said weirdness?

RE: KXTD-1232 Dropping Calls in AA Mode

I had to install newer 204 cards in the voicemail panasonic actually dialed in upgraded the software on the unit and made it so a touchtone 2 & 6 was required for stop recording command .do you have a zoom 2836 modem that you can plug into the unit?

RE: KXTD-1232 Dropping Calls in AA Mode

have you checked loop current ?

high current can cause vm to drop calls

you can read about it here

http://www.sandman.com/loopcur.html

RE: KXTD-1232 Dropping Calls in AA Mode

was that not what i said on first post skip?

RE: KXTD-1232 Dropping Calls in AA Mode

(OP)
It is but I had no idea what to do with that info though I suppose I should have asked.  He did, however, provide a link to what appears to be a very useful article which I am reading now.

Thanks for your help.  Hopefully I get this fixed before I get fired.  LOL!

RE: KXTD-1232 Dropping Calls in AA Mode

So it turns out our Loop Current is indeed high (according to Sandman's article).  Our currents are all right around 40-milliAmps.  I'm am thinking of buying Sandman's Loop Current Attenuators (http://www.sandman.com/loop.html).

My questions:
Does anybody know of a competitive (read: less expensive) product?

Is 40-milliAmps really too high for a Panasonic KXTD-1232?  Sandman states that ~27-milliAmps is best for most PBXs.

As always, thank you for your help!

RE: KXTD-1232 Dropping Calls in AA Mode

yep 28  but can tell the attenuators are not going to solve the problem you described!!i tried them first and it wound up doing what i posted above!

RE: KXTD-1232 Dropping Calls in AA Mode

(OP)
I'm not sure I followed the solution.  What are you proposing I do?  The PBX unit has a modem in it.  I can setup a modem on my PC if need be and dial in but I usually access the system via RS-232.  Can you explain?

Thanks for all your help!

RE: KXTD-1232 Dropping Calls in AA Mode

(OP)
So get this, it looks like all along it was a LOOSE WIRE!!!  The problem eventually went from intermittent to persistant which made it a bit easier to track down.  Then I was able to determine which line was the problem and check all the wires.  It was a bad connection at one of our punch-down blocks.

Go figure!

Thanks for all your help!

smdr is still a good thin to have!

RE: KXTD-1232 Dropping Calls in AA Mode

(OP)
SMDR?

RE: KXTD-1232 Dropping Calls in AA Mode

system message detail recording. if you have your
computer in terminal mode 9600 mark 8 1  you could actually see what line is dropping calls by the duration of calls as we discussed befor!!!S

RE: KXTD-1232 Dropping Calls in AA Mode

(OP)
Ah, right, we talked about so many things that afternoon.  I did attach to the system and log those for a while but I couldn't remember just what it was that I was looking for!  LOL!  I was hoping something would become apparent.  Well, something DID become apparent, the line stopped working altogether then it was pretty easy to spot!

Since I have my hands in so many things it's hard to spend the time on any one thing to really KNOW what I'm looking at.  I am pretty damn good at a lot of things but I can't seem to quite get EVERYTHING dow pat!

Thanks again for your help!

RE: KXTD-1232 Dropping Calls in AA Mode

Speaking of dropped calls on a 1232-----I have a situation where a 1232 will intermittently drop calls and sort of busyout all phones---the only fix the customer has been able to find is to reset the system. We have, as well as the dial-tone provider, tried to replicate this--but with absolutely no luck. It occured 2 times today but has not occured within the last 3 weeks. We have looked at call volume and dismissed that. We are wondering if anyone else has had anything similar.
