i am planning to buy maya 4.5, i am completely new to maya infact to 3d.i wanted to ask in very simple terms what is the minimum hardware requirement to run maya adequately.

I'm a newby myself but i am able to answer your question :)

Hardware Requirements
At a minimum, Maya requires a system with:
    Intel® Pentium® II or higher,
AMD Athlon™ processor,
Macintosh® G4 or G5
    512 MB RAM
    CD-ROM Drive
    Hardware-Accelerated OpenGL® graphics card
    3-button mouse with mouse driver software
    450 MB of hard disk space

and note that Maya version 6 is out now so don't pay too much for the 4.5 version.
