complete newbie question

complete newbie question

(OP)
I am totally clueless about this whole subject, but I am really curious.

Is there one barcode language, or do all the stores that use it format it themselves? Could you actually write in barcode and then any barcode reader would understand it?

If this is so, where can I learn it, because I've wanted to all my life.

Thanks a bunch and sorry if I'm a bother.

Peace out,
Peace Co.

RE: complete newbie question

peace,
a good place to start is;

http://www.adams1.com/pub/russadam/upccode.html

It will give you info on the various barcodes.
The UPC-A(the one that is on every product sold in the USA.) and EAN-13 (Europe), code 3-9 code 128 and on and on...

RE: complete newbie question

also see www.barcodeone.com

this site pertains more to how you use barcode in the real world.
