we use NAI antivirus defence suite to roll out ePo agent and virusscan 7.1 to desktops. We have one or two machines that when booted up and after logging in, pop up with the NT4 "service failed to start, see event viewer" error. when checking the log you see....

"mcafee framework service hung on starting"

This happens every day only when logging in

Note: epO version 3.2

any ideas?

that`s a common issue
try this (from mcafee support site):

This behavior can occur if the McAfee Framework service takes more than 30 seconds to start. Microsoft Windows NT is designed to log any service taking more than 30 seconds to start as an error. This issue only occurs on some Windows NT systems and is resolved in Windows 2000 and above.

modify service dependencies in the registry, follow these steps:
Start Registry Editor (REGEDT32).

Navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\McAfeeFramework

In the right pane of the Registry Editor window, double-click the value 'DependOnService'.

In the Multi-String Editor dialog box, add the following services under Data:

NOTE: Each service should be listed on a separate line.

LanmanWorkstation
NetBIOS

Click 'OK'.

Quit Registry Editor and restart the computer.
